July 2025

Over a hundred people, many with picnics, came to enjoy the sunshine and fun at the Brickfield’s summer wildlife fair.

An important part of the day was to celebrate nature and encourage children to value the wildlife on the Brickfield and beyond.

We were very lucky to have had Steve Savage and Marianne Angeloni-van Niekerken, two of our regular experts to help.

Willow weaving

willow weaving

In Marianne’s willow weaving workshop, participants learnt how willow is coppiced and prepared for weaving and made their own willow dragon flies and swifts to take home.

Marianne has been a basketmaker since 2006, using natural materials of foraged hedgerow from the Sussex and Kent landscape.
